Chemobrain is real.

It's here and it's happening, kids.

Increasingly, I have been stumbling onto balls that I've been dropping for the past couple of months, so I just wanted to say that if you put out a call or email that hasn't been responded to, or sent me a card or gift I never acknowledged I am incredibly sorry.

I love you all and I appreciate you immensely. I receive every check-in from you with great excitement and gratefulness. This has not diminished an ounce, but my ability to respond on the ms. manners timeline has taken a nosedive. And my internal flag for overdue items is positively out of commission. The net result is if it happened more than three days ago, it might as well have happened three years ago.

This is not the way I want to be, but my brain, which was already known for some fissures which we always just chalked up to general flakiness or slow absorption (BGI friends lovingly picked up on the nickname I gave myself often - "grandma") has now sprung leaks.

They say it could be months or even years (! dear god, please don't make this the dues I pay for my miraculous ability to deal with chemo physically. Take the fingernails! Or give me patchy hair until mid summer! Not this. ) before it is restored.

Have patience.

I love you all very much.

  1. Between chemobrain and newborn brain, we're quite the pair. I'll have patience with you if you'll have patience with me :) ~kg

  2. I reckon that you have every right to put email at the very bottom of your "To Do" list. Your postings are proof positive that you care, as if we needed any.

If you need a new brain, mine has hardly ever been used. In fact, it still has that "New Brain Smell". Let me know if you want it and I'll put it in the mail right away.
